Taikoo Place unveils its headline programme, “ArtisTree Selects: Imagination Investments” by globally celebrated artist Coco Capitán, as part of Swire Properties Arts Month coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong. Running from 19 March to 26 April 2026, the exhibition takes place at ArtisTree and across Taikoo Place. Conceived as a three-part installation, the exhibition reflects on the themes of memory, longing and connection, offering an evocative dialogue between contemporary art and urban culture.
Born in Seville, Spain and currently based in London, UK, Coco Capitán has emerged as one of the most influential artists of her generation, traversing the worlds of art, photography and fashion. Internationally recognised for her analogue photography and distinctive voice, all her works famously incorporate elements of her idiosyncratic handwritten texts. These texts are often infused with an acute sense of humour tempered by melancholy, and have received sustained critical attention over the past decade. Her work has been presented by leading institutions worldwide and embraced through collaborations with some of the world’s most prominent fashion houses.
For this large-scale exhibition debut in Hong Kong, “ArtisTree Selects: Imagination Investments” transforms Taikoo Place into a seamless artistic journey, which brings together photographs, paintings on canvas and sails, poems, an in-situ project, a participatory installation, and public interventions. The journey begins at ArtisTree, extending through a text-based public art intervention and culminating on the top floor of One Island East. In collaboration with leading Swiss wealth management group Julius Baer, the month-long exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how memories and meanings are formed and preserved through time, images, poetic text and interpersonal connections.
Priscilla Li, Deputy Director, Office (Hong Kong) at Swire Properties said, “We are incredibly proud to present Coco Capitán’s first exhibition in Hong Kong. This is more than just an art event; it’s an innovative and immersive journey that seamlessly integrates contemporary art across Taikoo Place – from our dedicated multipurpose amenity space ArtisTree to the top floor of One Island East for the first time ever, and even our walkways! This truly exemplifies our vision: to cultivate Taikoo Place as an aspirational urban destination where creativity and culture help enrich and become a part of the daily lives of our tenants and the wider community. We believe in fostering an environment where art invites introspection and inspires new perspectives.”
Coco Capitán shared, “I have always been drawn to places shaped by movement – by rhythm, by the stories created by the people passing through; and Hong Kong is the perfect example of a city perpetually in transit. These elements have great influences on my work, not only as symbols, but as lived spaces of longing and freedom. I wanted this exhibition to feel like an organic integration between our everyday life and art. From the solitude of a sailor to the intimate act of preserving a fading memory, I hope visitors can slow down, inhabit the moment, and perhaps recognise fragments of their own personal reflection along the way.”
David Shick, Market Head Greater China Hong Kong and Branch Manager Hong Kong said, “At Julius Baer, we are proud to support vibrant cultural ecosystems through our continued partnership with ArtisTree as Tenant Partner for Art Month at Taikoo Place, for the second year running. This year, we are supporting the multi-location presentation of Coco Capitán’s Imagination Investments, bringing contemporary art into public spaces across the area. The exhibition offers fresh perspectives and invites meaningful engagement from visitors and passers-by alike. Our involvement reflects our ongoing commitment to creative expression, responsible stewardship, and strengthening connections within the communities where we operate.”
A Three-Part Dialogue Between Art, Time and Place
Part 1 “Naïvy” inside ArtisTree is anchored in Coco Capitán’s enduring fascination with the ocean, exploring the sea as both a tangible landscape and a metaphorical state of being. Featuring over 50 photographs, paintings and text works, the collection is an ode to the fragility of freedom and to the nostalgia of youth. Within this open, boundaryless space, the sailor appears as a recurring motif — a figure of autonomy and anonymity that invites contemplation of the tension between a sense of belonging and the impulse to drift. Guided by the artist’s conceptual narrative, visitors will receive a personal invitation letter to take on the role of a ‘lost memory collector’ and proceed to the next chapter of the exhibition.
Connecting the two venues, Part 2 “I Read While I Walk” unfolds as the unprecedented text installation stretching nearly half a kilometre through Taikoo Place. Composed of Capitán’s 13 characteristic handwritten aphorisms and poems, the custom-made artwork weaves her poetic voice into the neighbourhood’s everyday pedestrian route as a living narrative, gently reframing daily routines and revealing the stories embedded within the rhythms of urban life.
Entry to Part 3 “Memory Adoption Bureau” is unlocked by the invitation letter, serving as the final key for visitors to bring together the various fragments of memory throughout the exhibition. This chapter transforms over 10,000 sq. ft of office space on the 67th floor of One Island East into an interactive exhibition, reimagined as a poetic bureau for lost memories. Drawing from an archive of over 10,000 vernacular photographs, this participatory site-specific installation invites visitors to become custodians of anonymous pasts. Through an intimate ritual of emotional inheritance, each visitor selects a forgotten image and registers its adoption, turning the act of viewing into a hands-on experience of stewardship, connection and remembrance.
Visitors can take home a piece of Coco’s creative world from the exclusive gift shop located in ArtisTree. The shop offers a curated selection of the artist’s signature work.
The Journey Continues
This March marks only the beginning of Coco Capitán’s evolving partnership with the ArtisTree Selects flagship programme. Returning for a second chapter in the second half of the year, the exhibition will present new artwork and interventions inspired from Capitán’s time in Hong Kong. The upcoming phase sees the artist applying her distinctive lens to document the intimate choreographies and idiosyncratic charm of the city. Further details of the new exhibition will be announced in due course on the Taikoo Place social media.
